Natural Ways To Reduce Cellulite – Nik Toth

Cellulite – it doesn’t discriminate- large or small, it’s something that many women struggle with. Unfortunately cellulite is nothing short of stubborn, and it affects women’s bodies more than men’s due to the difference in our skin structures.

You may feel as though you have to learn to live with it, if this is something you have struggled with for a while, however there are simple and effective ways of reducing it, or even making it disappear.

I used this method while I was preparing for a bikini fitness competition and it worked wonders.

The first secret is body brushing!

If you commit to body brushing on a daily basis it can make a significantly positive impact on your skin. Cellulite is a fat deposit in the subcutaneous layers of the skin that produces a cottage cheese-like appearance. The good news is that it is not a medical condition and it can be reduced or considerably improved.

But firstly, let’s look at the major contributor to the production of cellulite:

Your diet.

  1. Carbs:

Diet plays a great role in the formation of cellulite. Consuming large amounts of simple carbohydrates can contribute to extra dimples. White, processed foods such as bread, rice, flour and baked goods are made with refined ingredients, and thus lack a lot of nutrients. Swap them for their natural, wholegrain alternatives, which are much higher in nutrients and fibre.

  1. Protein:

Cellulite can also develop due to the weakening of the connective tissue in your skin. Protein can help repair the connective tissue and helps to reduce cellulite. Fill up your plate with fish, meat, eggs, nuts, seeds and legumes.

  1. Vitamin C:

Collagen production is essential for healthy skin; loading up on vitamin C rich foods helps strengthen the connective tissue of your skin and can reduce the appearance of cellulite.

  1. Fats:

Too much Omega 6 fats and too little Omega 3 essential fats and can also cause cellulite. Include more Omega 3 foods such as walnuts, fax seeds, chia seeds, and oily fish such as trout, salmon and mackerel.  Avoid unhealthy fats such as margarine, vegetable oils (canola, soybean, sunflower and corn) because they are highly processed and are extracted by using chemical substances. The majority of processed and ‘fast foods’ are made with these vegetable oils and they are major contributors to cellulite and to inflammation in the body.

  1. Exercise:

Resistance and weight training are highly beneficial when it comes to reducing cellulite. Training with weights is the secret to reducing body fat and increasing lean muscle aka definition. Try high intensity interval training (HIIT), which helps burn body fat faster whilst also improves your cardiovascular fitness. Losing weight alone won’t eliminate cellulite but it reduces the fat deposits under the skin and improves the look almost instantly.

Now back to my secret weapon – body brushing.

Dry body brushing is an effective weapon against cellulite, as well as a form of detoxification. It stimulates the lymphatic system, and helps eliminate waste products, as well as dead skin cells. The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in eliminating harmful substances from our body.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Its best to do it before getting in the shower for 3-5 minutes, using a special body brush with soft bristles.
  2. Start by brushing the soles of your feet in circular motions, then moving onto your feet, ankles, knees as well as thighs and buttocks.
  3. Brush the arms from the palm to the elbow and then the upper arm. Brush gently the chest and abdomen area with lighter pressure; in circular strokes towards your heart this encourages lymph flow to your main lymphatic ducts.
  4. Do not brush sensitive areas such as your nipples and girly parts, wounds on the skin, varicose veins or sunburnt areas!

It’s that easy!

Make sure you do this daily for best results.
